VATICAN CITY Calling the behavior shameful, sinful, and much more frequent than the Vatican was comfortable with, Pope Benedict XVI vowed this week to bring the widespread pedophilia within the Roman Catholic Church down to a more manageable level.

Reverend Fred Phelps’s Westboro Baptist Church plans to picket Twitter’s San Francisco offices tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. PST. The Kansas-based church is picketing because it believes that “the people who run Twitter … don’t use their position & voice to warn a generation of rebels of the consequences of their rebellion.”

Up-ended Sukkah, Boston College campusOctober 7, 2009: They say that a Sukka, with its flimsy construction, serves to remind us that this world is temporal, and even if we think we are safe from the elements, it's really G-d that controls our destiny.

This was certainly the case on a windy day in October as I walked by this particular structure situated in the "Dust Bowl" near McElroy Hall for the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. As I approached McElroy Hall,  the Sukka  was still in fine shape, anchored firmly in the ground. I thought about taking a photo then, but decided to run my errand first and snap later. But when I exited less then ten minutes later, this was the photo I snapped: the Sukkah had been blown loose by the high winds and was upended some 50-75 feet away from its original location!

Yes, G-d truly controls our destinies. Well, I suppose you can say that G-d controls the destinies of flimsily-constructed Sukkas.

The Ten Commandments

The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this:

You cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal,' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery,' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians.. It creates an unprofessional work environment.
