“Message to Publisher”

From Michael C. Keith’s post to the Bagel Bards list:

Message to Publisher

Dear Sir or Madam,

I’m told by a writer-friend you are not accepting unsolicited manuscripts. However, I thought you might make an exception in my case, since I have recently published a story in a noted webzine, which you may have read with enthusiasm.

Please see my attached manuscript (482 pages single-spaced––assume Ayuthaya font is fine). I eagerly await your decision (asap, please) and believe you will find what I’ve sent well worth your time and attention.

Sincerely,

Calvin (not Cal)

P.S. I only expect a modest advance since this is my first full-length work.

Attended Somerville Writers and Readers Winter Market

My spouse, Ariel Cohen, and I attended the Somerville Writers and Readers Winter Market at the Somerville Library on Saturday, March 11, 2023. It was billed as serving up “locally sourced, organically grown literature:”

“Here’s your chance to meet several local Somerville authors, hear readings from their work, discover some fantastic literature, talk with writers and readers about book groups, writing groups and more. Come browse, borrow, or buy books by your neighbors and friends! Refreshments will be served.”

Denise Provost (of Bagel Bards fame) moderated the event, which also featured Lloyd Schwartz, Pulitzer Prize winner and poet laureate of Somerville.  (Notice I spelled “Pulitzer” correctly? ;-))

Other readers included:

  • Dave Ortega, graphic novelist
  • Denise Provost, poet
  • Lesley Bannatyne, short story author
  • Kevin M. McIntosh, novelist

As cliché as it sounds, a good time was had by all!
